1. Reminder: For Most Truckers, Highway Use Tax Return Due Sept. 3 Federal highway use tax returns are due Tuesday, Sept. 3 for truckers and other owners of heavy highway vehicles. 2. Modernized e-File Scheduled Power Outage over Labor Day Weekend The Modernized e-File (MeF) System will not be available from Saturday, Aug. 31 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time through Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 12:00 p.m. for a scheduled power outage. Please monitor the MeF Status Page for any updates. 3. Online FATCA Registration System Opens The Internal Revenue Service has opened a new online registration system for financial institutions that need to register under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). 4. Aug. 29 Phone Forum: How to Prepare for an IRS Employee Plans Audit Get the latest information about the Employee Plans examination process in an Aug. 29 phone forum. This forum will review the documents you should have at an audit to show how your plan complies with the law.
